Summer Update 2010- It has been an event full summer so far for the MantisSport Team, With some fresh bodies and a lot of excitement the team has tackled every obstacle with enthusiasm and vigor. With multiple trips to Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, Mosport an an invitation to the Toronto Indy, the racing season has kept everyone here at MantisSport on their toes and constantly on the go. In April the MantisSport prepared cars brought home a cornucopia of awards and accolades. At the PCA race at mid Ohio Ernie was on top of the podium for both of his sprint races and the enduro race, Mark Wolfe brought home a second place from his sprint race and Bob Seitz developed a water leak at the end of one of his practice sessions but we managed to get him back on track for the enduro where he ended up on the podium and brought home a second in class. After a quick trip back home, the team was busy preparing to go to the Glen two weeks later. The Glen saw a larger selection of cars from the MantisSport stable, with Mark Wolfe bringing home 2 3rd place finishes, and John Amardeil bringing home a 4th overall in his run group of about 20 cars, Ernie was no slouch bringing home a first and third. That's when we got the call that would invariably change the 2010 racing schedule for the MantisSport team, we got invited to participate in the SCCA Pro Racing World challenge. We would be back at the glen 2 weeks later to see Ernie take his first podium in his first World challenge race. The next race to be prepared from was going to be on our home turf, with a load in Wednesday night and the crew chief returning from Tremblant early Thursday morning the team was ready to go for a weekend of racing, and what an event full weekend it was. due to the tight nature of the Toronto Indy course, keeping the car off the walls was a top priority, one that a few teams missed the memo on. Ernie raced an amazing race and while he was able to keep the cayman off of the walls, one of the Acura drivers made contact with him and Spun him out in turn three, this forced both of the drivers to come into the pits. Assessing the damage as a bent rim and a little vibration in high speeds, Ernie tore out of the pits and raced with a slightly injured car to solidify a 2nd place victory in front of a crowd of his hometown fans. All of the the highlights from the world challenge events can be watched at http://www.world-challengetv.com/ Check back at the end of the month for updates on the standings from the Mosport Can-Am Challenge, the Mid-Ohio World Challenge race and a preliminary report on the Targa Newfoundland

Feb 6-7, 2010 Sebring 48Hours PCA Club Race - Ernie Jakubowski drove his SP2 Class 944 to 1st Place in both Sprint Races beating a large field from across the country. In the Enduro Race, Ernie was leading the field when he heard an engine noise with half a lap to go and stopped immediately to avoid any potential damage. The other MantisSport car, a 911SC, driven by Scott Giannou finished 2nd and 3rd in D Class in his 2 Sprint races. Unfortunately a worn clutch ended his Enduro Race early. Both drivers were still very pleased with their weekend.

Oct 9-11 NASA -944Cup National Championships at VIR - Bill Comat in his Mantis prepared 944 clinched the National Title by coming third and second respectively in the two Sprint races by out pointing arch rival Ernie Jakubowski and Team Hardent. Ernie came second and third in the sprints but was DQ`d based on a HP infraction in the first race. The new engine dynoed OK prior to the race but picked up some extra HP after it loosened up during the breakin period. Ernie was crowned Great Lakes Champion and Canada Cup Champion hence defending 2 of his 3 titles from 2008. All in all 2009 was a very successful year for Ernie winning 13 of 16 races entered. Congratulations to all the drivers and crew under the Mantis Racing banner !

Aug 15-16 Mid-Ohio NASA Race - Ernie and Mark Wolff dominate the 944Cup races by each taking a first and a second respectively as the balance of the field runs away and hides in GTS.

Aug 1-2 Mosport Can/Am Challenge PCA Club Race - Ernie`s SP2 Class 944 wins in the Enduro and comes 1st and 2nd in the two Sprint Races. Mark Wolff`s SP2 944 came 2nd in the Enduro and 2nd and 3rd in the Sprint Races. Bill Comat`s SP2 came 3rd and 1st in the sprint races. Mike Mallais in SP3 came 1st in the Enduro and 1st in one sprint race. John Amardeil in H Class wins the Enduro and comes 2nd in a sprint race. Other Enduro winners were Tim Sanderson in GT4S and Robert Seitz came 2nd in I Class. Scott Gerard sprints to a 2nd in H class. In total, the Mantis prepared cars took 15 podium places over the weekend. Great fun was had by all. For pictures check out  www.SPANCimages.com/canam/

July 10-12 - Toronto HONDA Indy Vintage Race - Ernie, driving his `85 944 NA Mantis Sport prepared race car came first in the GT3 Class in both the Sat & Sun Sprint Races and 8th and 11th overall respectively in a field of 37 vintage Detroit/British and German performance cars. His teammate, Tim Sanderson came second in the GT2 class in both races driving a `82 911SC.

May 29 - June 1 Watkins Glen PCA Club Race - Ernie wins both Sprint Races and Enduro in SP2. Bill Comat follows with 2 Sprint Race seconds and a third in the Enduro. Rookie driver Mark Wolff had a 5th and 9th in the Sprints and a 5th place showing in the Enduro. In H Class, John Amardeil placed 5th/6th and 5th respectively. Scott Gerard came 7th/10th and 3rd in the Enduro.

May 16-17 Mid-Ohio PCA Club Race - The MantisSport Team finished 1/2/3 and 1/2/5 in their SP2 Class 944`s in the Sprint Races. The drivers were Ernie Jakubowski, Mike Mallais and Mark Wolff respectively. In the Enduro Race, Mike edged Ernie to take the win while Mark watched from the sidelines due to mechanical suspicions that didn`t materialize. Better safe than sorry.          In the other MantisSport prepared cars, Scott Gerrard in his H Class 996 and John Amardeill in a 993 H car placed first and second all weekend respectively. Rain was a factor everyday but good racing was had by all. by W.S.
